The follow is our dear Aunt Evelyns obit. Evelyn, one the classiest people anywhere, was our oldest attendee at Oasis. Please read to the end for info in the Saturday viewing & Monday service: Evelyn Christie Funeral Notice Evelyn Lenzen Christie passed away peacefully at home July 14 after a short illness. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ to loving immigrant parents. Evelyn graduated from Battin High School, then attended Rutgers College of Pharmacy, where she earned a B.S. in Pharmacy, graduating with honors in 1950, one of five women in a class of one hundred. She worked at the family pharmacy, Lenzen’s Drug Store in Elizabeth, prior to her marriage to William F. Christie in 1953. Evelyn, Bill and their two beautiful daughters moved to Brielle, NJ in 1961, where she was very instrumental in establishing her parents’ new business, Lenzen’s Brielle Pharmacy. The Christie family then moved to Westfield, NJ where they have resided ever since. Evelyn worked at Save-On Pharmacy in Carteret and Plainfield, NJ before joining the pharmacy staff at Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside where she became Director of Pharmacy and retired after thirty three years of service. She loved her profession, classic jazz and big-band music, ball-room dancing, cooking, and travelling to France. Her memberships included the New Jersey Society of Pharmacists, the American Society of Consulting Pharmacists, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Oasis Church and “Le petit coin de France”. She had been a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club for many years. She was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Ethel Lenzen, Her husband Bill and her daughter Bryn Joan Burke. Surviving are her brother Len Lenzen, daughter Ellen Burleigh, Grandchildren, Emily, Lauren, Mary, Jane, Yotsah, Kefarah, Bryn and eight great grandchildren. Visitation will be at Gray’s Funeral Home, 318 E. Broad Street, Westfield, NJ on Saturday, July 19 from 1 to 3 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A memorial service will be held at Gray’s on Monday, July 21 at 10 AM followed by burial at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Children’s Specialized Hospital or The Salvation Army.
