"Like many topics, school finance is one of those that even though it may often be in the media, most people simply don’t pay much attention because they don’t see it impacting them personally. Because of cuts in school funding at the state and federal level and a locally declining enrollment, our school district is faced with the challenge of determining how best to deal with these realities. Regardless of what decisions are made, this issue that is often ignored will have a real impact on our schools and communities. In a series of articles over the next several weeks, this newspaper will attempt to first clarify what is happening and then review possible ways the school board can respond to the situation. An informed public can better discuss options with their local elected officials who face the difficult decisions to determine what is best for all."
