The following exchange was sent to Letters From White South Africa anonymously from: A Concerned Black African: I have been following your blogs and updates on Facebook about the failures of that have been caused by ANC and other cadres. I Am a black person an expatriate student here in s.a and i can totally agree with you that this country is in a total mess. Back while i was growing up we always saw how south Africa and Rhodesia were the biggest economies of Africa and even equated to super countries of the world Apartheid was totally positive since there were good services and plenty of jobs plus good economy. However i also tend to disapprove some apartheid policies like mistreatment of black people Apartheid may not have been 100% the best system cause there was also elements of injustices among black people but in terms of economy south Africa and Rhodesia were the best... I dont get the fuss why my fellow black South Africans keep blaming apartheid for all their problems a system that ended 20yrs ago. Instead of looking for ways to develop themselves they always blame apartheid and always want handouts from govt and if the govt does not hand them in a silver platter they always turn to violence where i come from there is nothing for mahala from the govt or anyone. Our country motto is IF YOU DO NOT WORK YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO EAT The positive thing however with my country is that the govt is always willing to support people with brilliant innovations/projects with resources esp innovations that will contribute to the growth of the country thus many young people have created jobs for themselves esp in the informal sectors. I tried starting some of these projects here in south Africa unfortunately the black south Africans were not cooperative and always like the easy way out.... I have worked with white guys here in south Africa and i have never encountered major problems with them(maybe few). In fact they are very cooperative and supportive since i give my 110% ....though there are few white chaps who have discriminated me but av always grown a thick skin and never let that bring me down. I always dont get why there is so much racial tension here in south Africa to an extent of even killing each other.i thought Mandela preached of forgiveness and unity he may not have been a saint or everyones favourite(but then who is??) but at least he always talked about forgiveness.i guess that landed on deaf ears Its so unfortunate that the ANC has always been spoon feeding black south Africans for the last 20yrs with a big silver spoons (child grants, free housing, free toilets, free electricity,BEE,affirmative action etc) but when the spoon is withdrawn the cause chaos In my country we have a small population of white Africans(+-50,000) whom are the descendants of colonial masters and we have always lived in harmony with each for more than 51yrs in fact we speak same local languages so i dont get it why black/white South Africans cant live in harmony without much racial tensions. Ive never understood BEE.At first i though it was B-be confident E-empower yourself E-empower others but it turned out to be a funny system to empower those who are connected to the ANC..a system that empowers people because of their race is not an effective system. Instead the govt should have set up systems to empower all races because of brilliant innovations that will contribute to the growth of the country. Why are farmers being murdered like flies in south Africa????dont people realise that without farmers people would starve like Zimbabwe??? In fact we have some white African farmers from Zimbabwe who are really doing really well in my country after being chased by the Mugabe regime. I thought that white people were the first to land here in s.a and only found the khoisans. From my history classes in high school black ancestors migrated into south Africa from the north in the 18 century so white people have more claim to south Africa that black people. In fact its black and white people who owe the khoisans whom they found here. If there can be positive leadership and governance in s.a i guess s.a would be one of the super power countries in the world... Since following your blogs i have never seen you post anything positive about blacks who are contributing to the betterment of the nation.i dont think that all blacks in s.a are same just as not all whites in s.a are saints or the best. if you could do some research and post contributions being made by black south Africans at least there will be some confidence among black/white south Africans and the bad image that has been portrayed among black south Africans will now be positive i also dont think that all white s. Africans are so good that they alone have contributed to growth of s.a i have met some white chaps who are even worse than blacks.i think also highlighting this can also show people we all make stupid mistakes.. Much as there is job discrimination to the white people caused by BEE there is also job discrimination towards professional black folks am seen cases where by black folks are paid less than their white counter parts yet they have the same qualifications, same experiences and perform the same work loads av also witnesses black folks being looked down upon by white folks esp junior officers esp where a work environment is full of white folks yet white junior officers are treated well by their superiors.. I believe s.a has a long way to go in order to end the racial injustices in the country if black south Africans can stop with this ancestral sangoma worship and turn to the one true God at least the presence of God will be felt once again in s. Africa and the country will once turn again into a christian nation like the apartheid days i dont get the fuss about Steve Hofmeyr singing the old national anthem.if it does not incite hatred like kill the boar song then let him sing it. i believe s.a is a free nation and everyone can do as they please so long as they dont cause harm to others and i dont see how die stem is causing harm. I would care less even if he sang Paul Kruger anthem pls dont share this on the public for everyone to see. I dont want to loose my job cause am siding with the enemy whereas am speaking the plain truth. I want to be anonymous. It would be great if you can share it on the page but dont put my name i would like to remain anonymous.if possible just write concerned black African it would also be great if you could write about black to black hate(afrophobia, xenophobia) cz it really happening in south Africa esp in the townships where some unenlightened black south Africans attack hardworking black immigrants accusing them of stealing their jobs which on the first place they cannot even do.(pardon my English since its not my first language though am still learning) Black people must stop calling themselves disadvantaged and also must stop blaming all their problems on apartheid. Apartheid happened 20yrs ago and since then they should have done something with their lives and not depend on handouts. The Jews were persecuted by the Nazi during the holocaust and since then i have never seen a Jew feeling sorry for him/herself or blaming all his/her problems on the holocaust.instead the Jews have build a powerful nation of Israel.that is a challenge to all my fellow blacks worldwide. With God all things are possible....
