The following is a more modernistic approach to understanding the Biblical concept of renewing the mind, how demons operate and human emotions: Emotions are basically information, information that solicits a specific response. The person who is driven by their emotions becomes a slave to their emotions and is at the whim of whatever new information is received by the mind. Demons work hand in hand with human emotions, they are highly advanced beings who manipulate the human through ‘thought darts’ (information) which becomes an ‘emotion’ to the human and thus, produces a given response. This is no sci-fi type of an analysis on how demons work for the very ingenuity of humans will prove to you that even we have the technology to alter moods and change perceptions almost automatically so just imagine what highly advanced demons can do. This is why we are instructed to not be conformed to the pattern of this world (the realm where satan and the other principalities rule and operate) but be transformed how? By the renewing of our MINDS. The word of God is a scrubbing mechanism that purges the mind of erroneous information (philosophies, ideologies, chips on one’s shoulder, sorrows, hurts, pains, false perceptions on life, unclean thought patterns that produce sin and false ideas about God). The psalmist David states in Psalm 119, “How shall a young man cleanse his way? By teeking heed thereto according to thy WORD”. Jesus also said, “sanctify them by thy Word, thy Word is truth”. The Word of God is like ‘Holy information’ that must be downloaded into the mind and heart in order to re-program the faulty human software and cleanse it from viruses (sin). The Bible is a soap, it is a lamp and a light. All of our thoughts have an origin and are based on a previous experience and or some outside influence. We are instructed to NOT lean on our own understanding (our emotions, own ideas, etc) because we are finite beings who are like conduits: we are at the discretion of whatever information we allow to come into our mind. The Holy Spirit must therefore take over the individual and begin to lead that individual by promoting self-control so that the individual can perceive and know to take any faulty information and data dump it. The individual can then focus and look to God for guidance. If the individual does not do this, if he or she does not acknowledge God in all of his or her ways and instead, leans on his own understanding – since he or she is basically a conduit for information – he will be manipulated and guided by the powers that rule the world and have blinded the minds of the inhabitants of planet earth.
