The following is an update from by brother Charles who has been caring for myparents the last 20 plus years and has been talking with the doctors, etc. Thanks for your notes of concern and prayer which is most important now, Pastor Floyd January 16, 11:59 pm Verona/Mom: Another poor day of intake takes us one day closer to Moms heavenly journey. She has no physical reserves to draw on so with food/liquid intake very, very low her body can last only so long ... likely just a few days at most unless the Lord intervenes in a mighty way on her behalf. Those charged with providing intake are hesitant about doing such because of her trouble with aspiration when she does consume something. At this point they are having trouble even giving her medicine because she does not swallow as she should. She continues to receive oxygen, breathing treatments, and morphine to help with her breathing. There are additional comfort care medicines to potentially use but nothing new was started today. Floyd/Dad: The flu, pneumonia, and afib improving. His need for oxygen worsened which is a concern as the amount he is receiving is at a level higher than is acceptable when transferring to Westchester Manor later for rehab. He is not eating well for the most part which could be partly related to what he has been presented to eat ... currently puree style which is not particularly appetizing. So far he seems to be doing pretty well with the Ensure/Boost type nutritional supplements. Trying various style foods in important to the process of helping to determine what foods/liquids Dad can intake while minimizing what will be on-going aspiration issues because of the flapper problem mentioned in previous emails. Short Term Goal: The short term goal of trying to get Dad to Westchester Manor to be with Mom at least one more time is seemingly becoming more elusive due to Moms continued lack of intake and Dad needing his oxygen level to improve while continuing to improve on the afib, flu, pneumonia, and strength fronts. Dad understands this window of opportunity is short but realizes he cannot be transferred out of the hospital unless he is deemed healthy enough to be transferred. On the strength front the longer he is in the hospital the more likely it should be become that he can get more blood before be transferred to Westchester Manor. I believe that his receiving two more pints of blood would help his overall strength level. Right now his hemoglobin level is below the point level (11) that is used for determining if he is eligible to receive blood. Floyd & Esther: They arrived tonight on their way back north from a pastors conference held in Orlando this week. Their first opportunity to see Mom and Dad on this trip will be tomorrow. Thank you so much for your continued prayers. Thats all for now. Charles
