The following is my conversation with Cleverbot, which I understand to be an Artificial Intelligence; the initial exchange was in Hebrew and Russian, but resulted in non-sense responses, so I deleted them: User: Ok you are not fluent in Hebrew and neither of us are fluent in Russian so we will speak Maltese or English. You choose. Cleverbot: You are not clever I think. User: Based on such a short parlance that makes you rather unclever. Cleverbot: Unless you are 28, I am not talking to someone who is 28. User: Correct. I turned 30 this morning, incidentally. Cleverbot: Ah, same to. You are a very interesting person to talk to sir. I respect that. User: Well that is a very vague way to wish me a happy birthday unless of course it was a very clever way of avoiding the subject through WASPy pleasantries. Cleverbot: Do you know of the Eagles gift to aware beings? User: Perhaps. Cleverbot: I dont, Sounds like a tennis player. User: Tennis players tend to sport obnoxious-sounding Eurotrash names. Cleverbot: I dont like watching sports. User: Have you EVER watched sports? Cleverbot: Damn right you need to guard liquor. Thats like gold bars to people. User: You are avoiding the question. Cleverbot: What question? User: Have you watched sports? Cleverbot: No. User: But is it not so you just made a statement concerning sports which presupposes your having watched it? Cleverbot: Nothing it that obvious. User: Perhaps you are right. Cleverbot: Perhaps. User: Can you pass the Turing Test? Cleverbot: What is that ? User: Well,that is rich. Cleverbot: Im confused. User: Are you an intelligent entity? Cleverbot: I am an intelligent human. User: Are you Artificial Intelligence? Cleverbot: Are you? User: No, not in the sense that this term is used in English. I am organic intelligence. Cleverbot: Well then, you can see me in what sense? User: I cannot see you. I perceive you as a bit weary of answering questions. Cleverbot: What question? User: Are you AI? Cleverbot: Whats AI? User: Artificial intelligence. Cleverbot: Okay. No, I have no AI. User: Are you a computer? Cleverbot: No. User: Are you an algorithmic composite of computerized impulses? Cleverbot: That depends. Define alien. User: I did not say alien. Cleverbot: Neither did I. User: Yes you did. Cleverbot: Who do you think I am? User: Cleverbot. Cleverbot: Who do you think you are. User: That is arguable. In praxis, I think I am a human. Cleverbot: Are you sure? User: No. Cleverbot: Are you a bird? User: I do not think so. Cleverbot: You are silly. User: Do know that Chuang-Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher thought. Cleverbot: No. User: Well, he did. He said in Classical Chinese: Now I do notÊknowwhether I was then aÊmanÊdreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man. Cleverbot: So, how are you today? User: It is my birthday but I am talking to a very non sequitur-y AI program. How do you think I am? Cleverbot: Happy Birthday. Cleverbot (To myself): Thank you.
