The following message was sent today to all Island Health staff, physicians and volunteers on behalf of Brendan Carr, President & CEO: Good afternoon colleagues. By now I am sure most of you are aware of the tragic and senseless shootings that took place this morning in Nanaimo. I want to acknowledge and thank all Island Health employees who assisted in managing this crisis and those who cared for the injured. When tragedies like this happen so close to home, we are all affected. Our hearts and prayers are with the loved ones of those who lost their lives or were injured in the shootings. Some of our colleagues in Nanaimo and area may have personal connections with the deceased and injured. If you are one of these employees, I am so very sorry for your loss. As a care organization we deal with tragedy and loss every day. However, when something like this happens, it impacts us differently. It is for that reason that I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge that many of you will have been shaken by the events of today. If you have been I encourage you to reach out for support. Again my deepest gratitude to those that assisted in managing this crisis. Brendan
