The following post was made by a friend of mine, hope you like it as much as I did......................I fear for the Scots - well some of them. I can understand the rabid hatred of the Tories and also the disappointment with New Labour. But this headlong rush towards the supposed promised land of independence is going to come as something of a shock when it all goes tits-up - and you finally realise that you have been led a merry dance, by the arch-gambler and romantic-nationalist dreamer that Salmond is. And then what will you do? You cant come knocking at the door asking to come back in. The UK bailed out the Irish Republic (a non-UK foreign country - albeit with peculiar ties to us) after its disastrous economic slump. I doubt we will be able to do this again now - when it is Scotlands turn. Why arent all these YES voters listening to the leaders of industry and economists? Most of them are telling you that disaster awaits with a flight of jobs, capital and probably your best workers to elsewhere. The oil aspect of it is not going to save things. Listen to what the Norwegians have actually been saying recently about how long it took them to build up their sovereign fund (it wasnt all via oil) and how expensive that country is actually to live in (unless you are rich). The extreme likelihood for Scotland after all the euphoria for a few months is a slow and continual withering decline. The Nationalist agenda is not a sensible one. It flies in the face of the interconnectedness of the modern world. Yes the UK needs reform and if this has proved nothing else - it is showing all of us that there is huge discontent with the current settlement. But breaking away is not the answer. It is called cutting off your nose to spite your face. So sad and so unnecessary. But it is not too late. Many Scots Nationalists view the rest of us as some kind of imperialists trying to hold them in something not of their choosing - but we are not. We see it as a family breaking up - and the fallout from that is never pleasant for years to come. Please reconsider...
