The following qouted paragraphs are texts from Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand Amante who leads the Team Caraga on a 5-day Mission on Humanitarian Assistance for Typhoon Ruby-affected people in Eastern Visayas. We found a DRR Champion in you Mayor: The Eastern Visayas Relief, Clearing and Medical Mission was successful. We were about a hundred from the Team Caraga composed of employees from OCD, DSWD, DOH, BFP, 22 from the Phil. Army, 20+ from Agusan del Norte and 55 from LGU Butuan including 20 from BCPO-PNP. Aside from the humanitarian help extended to the affected areas ( San Policarpo and Oras towns), it was also a rare opportunity for us to learn and experience how to coordinate and manage an actual disaster. We shall do this every year if necessary in order to build a stronger DRRMO as an LGU and as a Region organization. Flooding and typhoon will always be part of us. Its better to be ready all the time to make Butuanons and Caraganons safer and more resilient in critical times like this. We would like to thank Agusan del Norte Governor Angel Amante-Matba, OCD Dir. Mazo, DSWD Dir. Brigoli, PIA Director Caga, Gen. Lactao and Col. Dar of PA, Col. Bermudo of BCPO, Col. Timonera of BFP, Dir. Molon of DOH and the City Government of Butuan and everyone who has touched the lives of the countless victims of Typhoon Ruby in Eastern Samar through this mission.
