The following release was issued to the media today. Media Release Immediate Release: September 10, 2013 Upper Canada District School Board Lifts Hold and Secure Mode at Kemptville and Merrickville Schools – Everyone Safe (Kemptville) – Schools in the Kemptville and Merrickville area were placed in hold and secure mode this morning after reports of a suspicious person in the area. The order was lifted shortly before noon today at North Grenville District High School, Merrickville Public School, Kemptville Public School, South Branch Elementary School and Oxford-on-Rideau Public School, said Superintendent David Coombs. The schools were placed in hold and secure about 11:10 a.m. following a report at an area school of a suspicious person who was possibly armed. A subsequent police investigation determined the allegations were unfounded. All students and staff are safe, said Coombs. The move was taken as a precautionary measure on the advice of the Ontario Provincial Police.
