The forecast looks bad for the upcoming week. Here is an excerpt: Weather Highlight(s): Lightning pattern is setting up that could last for the next week as an upper level low pressure area meanders around over various section of the region. I would think that storms will become increasing wet as we get into the weekend. Fire Potential: Our models have become quite bullish today with respect to expected fire activity from the ensuing lightning episode. Basically we can expect moderate to heavy levels of IA activity for at least the next 4 days and maybe longer depending on how wet the lightning finally becomes. For now the heaviest IA day appears to be Friday with 136 ignitions being forecasted. Between Thursday and early next week we expect 4 or 5 new large fires with a worst case scenario of as many as 15. Details for where, when and how much remain uncertain so stay tuned. Note that lightning caused IA is a real possibility in all PSAs and elevated chances for large fires exist in nearly all PSAs. The "High Risk" days are where our model is suggesting large fiere probabilities above 20%. Preparedness Level: Northwest = 4 National = 3 In addition, redflags are flying over most of Oregon. wrh.noaa.gov/
