The forefathers of the United States set this nation forth on such a promising classicistic yet avant-garde path. A secular republic, and near-democracy--particularly in comparison with other major governments of the time. Progressive social interests founded in classical academic and cultural roots--movements like NeoClassicism and Romanticism; fine arts, the sciences, architecture, philosophy, literature, etc. Had only we continued on that path, rather than the interests of industrialism during the 19th century; ultimately with complete control of our government, economy and society as a whole. Absolute potential squandered in exchange for an apathetic, willfully ignorant if not misinformed, juvenile entertainment-obsessed and consequently distracted populous of overfed children. Clinging to halcyon delusions of exaggerated superiority and comfort. If only logic prevailed over profit. Imagine how great we truly could have become.
