The foreign secretary of Great Britain Phillip Hammond has shunned the idea of helping Syrian president Bashaar Al Assad with fighting (IS) Militants operating in Syria. In an interview his words were It would poison what we are trying to achieve As it was britain who wants Al assad out of office for the atrocities committed in Syria during the Civil war. Further discussion lead to this quote That what we have learnt in the Middle east that my enemies, enemy is not always my friend Hammond went on to express that Al Asaad is not trust worthy He also said We may very well find that we are fighting, on some occasions, the same people that he is but that doesnt make us his ally. But former head of the Army Lord Dannatt and ex-Foreign Secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind addressed The idea of negotiating with Al Assad after the graphic footage shown to officials of James Foleys Beheading. Lord Dannatt went on to say That in fairness to the US government and our government that this situation is very complex and very difficult and That Islamic state has to be confronted has to be contested and must be defeated and if not their influence will spread further through the region and soon past its own borders into ours Sir Malcolm, the chairman of Parliaments Intelligence and Security Committee, said history had shown that sometimes you actually have to make an arrangement with some nasty people in order to get rid of some even nastier ones. What is everyones opinion on this. There seems to be divided opinions amongst British officials on the IS presence in Iraq and Syria. If anyone has more information that they want to input please do elaborate on this. My sources were BBC and CNN
