The former deputy governor of the State of Osun, Senator Iyiola Omisore has acquired armored helicopters and state of the art sport utility vehicles ahead of the gubernatorial elections in the state, Per Second News gathered. The chopper is believed to be in the class of the MI-17 series capable of reaching the nooks and cranny of the State. The former chairman Senate Committee on appropriations has kept a deliberately low profile in a state that gave him a rude stumble coming out of the box in his 2009 Senate election annulment. Per Second News gathered that Senator Iyiola Omisore has quietly opened a campaign office and set up a media team the Omisore media group. Meanwhile, the speculated governorship ambition of the senator is tearing the state chapter of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) apart, an insider source told Per Second News. According to the source, Omisore declared his intention to run for the governorship at a meeting with his supporters at his home sometime last year. However, Omisore’s in-house declaration, coming at a time that other PDP bigwigs have also signified their intention to contest for the governorship position, is causing uneasy calm within the state chapter of PDP, even as other contenders are afraid that they may not be given a level playing ground. A PDP chieftain who pleaded anonymity said the Omisiore’s declaration, coming under the prevailing situation in the state, was a signal that other aspirants would be shoved aside with the claim that Omisore has been endorsed as the party’s candidate. One of the aspirants, Mr Wole Oke, recently dismissed the notion that Omisore is the anointed party flagbearer, “It is not in the culture of our great party, PDP, and moreover, we are all closely monitoring events in Osun and at the national secretariat in Abuja, so there is no iota of truth in the rumour making the rounds that the party has endorsed a sole candidature of any aspirant for next year governorship polls in Osun State. “The party has already promised a level playing ground for all aspirants, so why would some people embark on cheap gimmicks to distract and cause rancour within the party now, he said. Senator Iyiola Omisore is a grass root Politician, a political mobiliser and a community man, who has always being involved in development efforts in his place of birth, Ile Ife.
