The four men delegation that visited Liberia from Norway has return to Norway with mission accomplished. The delegation was comprised of high officials of the Union of Liberian Associations in Norway (ULAN; Emmanuel Suah, National Chairmen; Michael Pah Forsther, National Vice Chairman; Linford A. Gweh, General Secretary and head of the Secretariat, and Dr. Percy Oware, Coordinator-Peace Center and representative of Tromsø University). The purpose of the visitation to Liberia was for the University of Tromsø and the University of Liberia to enter into a bilateral agreement for student exchange. The agreement is comprised of Quota Scholarship Scheme that is fully funded by the Norwegian government. On the other hand is the self-financed program where students will only have to cover their living expenses, but will attend any university if admitted with a tuition free since high education is free in Norway. Students from the University of Liberian will start to enroll at Tromsø as early as next year 2015. The University of Liberia will be listed on the Norwegian partnership universities listing by November 2014. The quota scholarship scheme will allow students from the UL to pursue their high education in masters and PhD degree programs at Tromsø University. Other universities that are expected to enter the agreement in the future are the Norwegian Environment-Bio-Science University (NMBU) in Ås, Oslo University (SUM), University of Stavanger, Bergen University, and Trondheim University (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) including other colleges. The delegation met with some top officials that are relevant to smooth operation of the undertaking as relating to coordinating the implementation of the quota scholarship scheme and the self-financed program. Officials met were Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Augustine K. Ngafuan and Education Minister Madam Etmonia Tarpeh. The delegation met the faculty senate of UL and the UL President Dr. Emmet Dennis. ULAN officials met UL students benefiting from ULAN-Financial-Aid program where points and gratitude were expressed by those benefiting students. A brief meeting was also held with ULAN-Liberia officials where new ideas and strategies were put forth concerning the improvement of the student aid. Series of radio and TV talk shows were held where the Liberian people wholeheartedly welcome the initiative and highly appreciated ULAN’s role in this noble project through calls during the talk shows. The talk shows were only for awareness purpose as ULAN stands to be part of the solution in improving the educational system by promoting higher education in Liberia.
