The front page of SMH this morning was about a report commissioned - TopicsExpress

The front page of SMH this morning was about a report commissioned by the Abbott government, which said the Commonwealth-owned land - Malabar headland - was surplus to requirements and would generate a significant return if sold. Later in the day the Abbott government changed its tune. The quick back down by Minister Hunt is a credit to the Friends of Malabar Headland and community workers who have campaigned for 15 years to protect this environmental treasure. If Minister Hunt wants the public to believe that the Abbott government has ruled out the sell off or development of Malabar Headland then he should move quickly to provide legal protection for this unique environment. If the Minister is going to be true to his commitment that this area of prime coastal land will ‘stay in public hands forever’ he should move quickly to protect the whole Headland as a national park with the required zoning.
