The funny thing about long exposures is that they often dont show - TopicsExpress

The funny thing about long exposures is that they often dont show how rough the sea actually is. Last nights weather forecast said hazy and I was a little suspicious of that. I later convinced myself that I was in for awesome skies. Note 1 - trust your gut-feel. I had previously seen the pipeline in the photo below and looked at a photo of it last night before deciding to visit this location at sunrise today (high tide at the same time). Note 2 to aspiring seascape photographers - standing too close to the edge of a bank on the seas edge at high tide is dangerous. Rather stand back and zoom in a little. Also staring at the Canon app on your phone instead of the camera and approaching waves is not a good idea. The poor camera, tripod and I got fully drenched. I rushed off to garage to spray the sand off with compressed air and wipe with damp clean water cloth. A once over at Camera Tek tomorrow should end my jitters. The hazy sunrise photos I got with a drenching (never mind the artificial light on the pipeline) qualified for the recycle bin. Douglas MacArthur said “Age wrinkles the body; quitting wrinkles the soul.” And so I soldiered on to eventually pull the photo below out of the shore-break ;) 6D, ISO 100, F4, FL 45, AEB, AV
