The fury of nature, unabashedly displayed first in Uttarakhand and - TopicsExpress

The fury of nature, unabashedly displayed first in Uttarakhand and now in Jammu & kashmir, has once again proved the point that our existence is NOT based on religion, caste, creed, race, ethnicity etc. but to the extent we respect NATURE. In our penchant to usurp power and control one minuscule element of nature, i.e. human beings, we have been knowingly - unknowingly confronting nature head-on with devastating consequences. Nature does not discriminate at all - be it on the basis of religion or anything else. Had God, Allah or Ishwar been all powerful, why this calamity? Couldnt the rabid fundamentalists of the valley, or for that matter Pakistan, not implore the Almighty Allah to direct the fury of the flood not against the believers but against the so-called infidels? The same holds good for other faiths as well. The surprising fact is that when it comes to ones own life we tend to realise that humanity is above all religions. In order to save ourselves, we dither not once to seek assistance from the same people against whom we perpetrated hatred just before the catastrophe struck. J & K floods have shown innumerable incidents of Hindus & Muslims coming together and saving each others lives. This proves - Humanity still survives. I raise the larger question - should religion be given the type of importance that we are giving today? Why should a few handful of cynical rabid radicals be allowed to hold the world at hostage? Why cant religious reforms be done periodically just as amendments of the constitution? Time has come to wrench away power from the unholymen of each faith and isolate all who dare to sacrifice humanity at the altar of religion.
