The future according to someone that gave it some thought Gamers, Stock brokers, Video streaming (netflix, Youtube), up/downloading massive files (music industry), online tv and online telephones (magic jack may all be severely impacted. Stock brokers? Well, yeah - if anyone in their familys associated with any of these services & their service suddenly becomes slow. People who work from home - customer service based, if you utilize any of these services - it may cost you your job! Consumers will be in tears, unable to determine what happened to their services. Nobody will inform them why their service is slow. They will be deferred to 3rd party vendors (routers, wifi equipment, host websites, malware, conflicting software...etc.). ISP Technicial support will not be authorized to troubleshoot 3rd party vendor equipment. Consumers will live in a nightmare, theyll be hung up, transferred, verbally abused, billed for no trouble found by technicians who are dispatched to their premise - to find no trouble exists. It may be weeks, months, years - before the trouble is identified that theyve exceeded their threshold & slow speeds imposed upon their line. Misguided tech support will advise consumers to purchase new equipment - just to get them off the line and pass the buck. Consumers will purchase new modems, router, wifi, computers, laptops, notebooks, wires, cables, additional tech support fees, computer repair, purchase new firewalls, delete important files, restore their computers, internal departments will transfer you around the entire service providers offices, you will be on your own, you will get lost in the system. Heaven forbid you are disabled and heavily depend on the internet for your daily living. A technician may identify the source as threshold throttling and may get you back up and running temporarily & then, itll start all over again, in a couple months, once youve exceeded that threshold again. Its rogue territory and more research needs to be done. Major corporations are extremely compartmentalized. Consumers will spend hours, if not days - yes years, to get through various departments. If you are a doctor, business - you may have priority if you self-identify, the rest of us will suffer tremendously. Stolen from :My letter to FCC. Not my work product
