The future of Afghanistan depends on more than just creating peace - TopicsExpress

The future of Afghanistan depends on more than just creating peace and stability. It also depends on giving young people a chance to create a livelihood and free themselves from poverty and hunger. Our partner organisation - Afghan Action runs a Training and Business Incubation Centre for young men and women, some of them disabled, in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital city. They teach people to make handmade carpets and clothing. This sewing and clothing project is designed to train and employ unemployed people with sewing and tailoring skills and apprentices to produce clothes and make uniforms for local schools, hospitals and companies. The project aims to produce attractive clothing for the Afghan market – and for other markets elsewhere in the world. This opportunity will help 46 people, mainly women, over a 2 year period (August 2011 to July 2013) to learn professional sewing and tailoring skills and find good jobs or grow their own businesses. The aim is that they should free themselves from poverty and hunger. We support them for their first year by paying them a monthly wage of £30/month, providing a free nourishing midday meal and on-site healthcare. They also benefit from education. Please support these trainees when they graduate by investing in their business: £4600 will provide sewing materials for all 46 trainees £5060 will help and equipe each trainee to own a sewing machine
