The gallery artist of the week is Alex Bernstein! Bernstein’s work can be viewed in our current show, texture&tension. The son of two established glass artists, Alex Bernstein grew up within the magnificent Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Through watching his father’s refined technique and his mother’s aptness for creating soft but textural works, he discovered his own intimate narrative landscapes, incorporating the aesthetics of light shifting through the forest valleys of his home. Bernstein’s glass making processes intimated nature’s practices in creation and destruction--oxidation, erosion, growth, decay. He treats every piece as a journey, an exploration in form, light and color. He evaluates density and opacity to strike a sophisticated balance between textural roughness and smooth, gem like elements. His sculptures of layered transparent glass seem to breathe a light within it that creates an other-worldly glow. Bernstein’s work is available in the gallery!
