The girls and I are eating dinner tonight...all quiet-like...which is weird in itself...but the boys were out so it seemed oddly quiet... Im not complaining... Liv: Oh ya...mom...something happened to me today that Im kind of proud of myself for... Me: ohhhh??? What was it??? Liv: Well, I was in math and each of us were given a laptop to complete our project. My computer was all glitchy and it was really making me mad...so I slammed mine shut... (I feel myself brace for whats coming next. Math generally brings out a lot of anxiety and a lot of very negative behaviours) Me: I hope you werent acting inappropriately... Liv: No, no...I just decided to write it out neatly instead. I made my own graph on paper and did a long explanation for my work...it took four pages ( I myself have NEVER written FOUR pages of math explanations in my entire life so Im pretty impressed...perhaps this wont end as badly as Im thinking...) Me: Wow! That sounds awesome but did the teacher accept that? Liv: He asked me if he could keep it to use as an example for next years class...thats what I was proud of... I looked down into my spaghetti because my eyes filled with tears. Olivia has HATED math since she was 4 years old and she has had many, MANY issues in math class... THIS is unprecedented...seriously Me: Wow Liv!!! That is so great!!! And was it ok with you that he keep it? Liv: (eye roll) ummm YA!!! Me: Im really proud of you High school is giving Olivia a real sense of autonomy and she is flourishing the likes of which Ive never seen. It feels like shes grown in these last 3 months so very much and I am SO pleased with how they are getting to know her at the school and the teachers are helping her to be all she can be... I feel like I can breathe these days...and its a pretty amazing feeling #BreathingIsGood #JoyfulMoments
