The gold turning into cocaine story story must be disregarded - TopicsExpress

The gold turning into cocaine story story must be disregarded since the accused person has pleaded guilty to smuggling cocaine. If Ms Nayele Ametefeh thought she was carrying gold her lawyers would not (NEVER!) have advised her to plead guilty. Under English law, a mitigating feature could be mistaken belief of the offender regarding the type of drug. But this would be limited (if believable) to the TYPE of drug. GOLD certainly is not a drug. So, it could never be a part of her mitigation circumstances that she thought she was carrying gold, if so, then the mens rea aspect would not have been satisfied. And, her plea would have been not guilty.
