The good fortune of Heathrow continued at Chhatrapati Shivaji - TopicsExpress

The good fortune of Heathrow continued at Chhatrapati Shivaji airport with the kit bags arriving after a tolerable length of time. Whereupon a porter and myself breezed through the final customs check with barely a raised clipboard. Mayur and Reality’s driver were waiting outside and we were soon engulfed in Mumbai’s merciless mid-day traffic; and a more optimistic bunch of drivers you have yet to meet as they fight tooth, nail and fender to merge eight and sometimes nine lanes of traffic into a six lane highway. The apparent run of good project form continued at the temple in Matunga as they knew (phew!) that I was arriving, and had reserved a room for me to rest before a late afternoon move to a larger room on the seventh floor. Still not quite my favoured eyrie of room 76, but close, and I’m assured it will happen sooner than later. Before the afternoon was out there was time for a mini excursion to reacquaint myself with a few of the local traders and along the way to pick up towels, soap, loo paper, water, newspaper and fruit; this, Matunga’s version of World Traveller Nonplussed. There was even time for a rice plate across the road at Mani’s Lunch House before sleeping the sleep of the twice-showered.
