The government has changed its recruitment policy and procedure for members of the British Armed Forces from commonwealth countries effective 11 July 2013. Under the new regime the government has re-introduced a "residency test" which requires prospective recruits to have lawfully lived in the United Kingdom for a period of at least 5 years.
