The government has clarified on an order issued by the Labour Ministry, directing for the dismissal of foreign nationals holding key positions in private companies and non-governmental organizations. Addressing the media in Juba today, Foreign Affairs Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin said the order targets low level positions and does not apply to professionals holding technical positions such as nurses, Head of Missions, Country Directors and Financial Controllers. Marial says this will be done in consultation with the respective companies Marial further said the circular excludes all United Nations agencies, diplomatic corporations and organizations that signed bilateral agreements with the government. Earlier today, the Country Director of the United Nations development Program, UNDP, called for further discussions with the government regarding the Ministerial order. Balazs Horvath welcomed the main objective, to empower and employ South Sudanese, but said the approach would not ensure sustainability.
