The government miserably failed the gunman and his random victims - TopicsExpress

The government miserably failed the gunman and his random victims at the navy yard. The greatly disturbed shooter could not have been a better target for statist control by our entrenched bureaucracy of nannies, ninnies and nincompoops. But, what I am reading is that guns are a bigger problem than mentally ill people getting their hands on guns. Long ago, the ACLU anti-libertarians crushed the common sense of putting people hearing voices through the walls and floor into psychiatric intervention. Thirty years ago, the police (through the magistrate) would have intervened and put the poor man into psychiatric detention. Unintended consequences are not coincidental. Every act undertaken has trade-offs both good and bad. The shooter tried to turn to the government for help with his demons and he was dutifully ignored as someone who did not "yet" qualify for preventative detention. We are at the point in protecting personal "privacy" with questionable regulations while at the same time the NSA is surfing through our "private" records with apparent impunity. The statists who are fundamentally transforming America have a nasty habit of never laying out their plans for scrutiny in the spirit of transparency. The dictatorship of the state can not admit fallacy nor brook intolerance.
