The government of the Netherlands provides extra support for fight against Ebola. Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen is supporting a joint initiative by Dutch aid organisations to step up efforts against Ebola. The minister made this announcement yesterday after her visit to Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital. Sierra Leone and its neighbours Liberia and Guinea have been hit hardest by the Ebola outbreak, which has led so far to the deaths of over 8,200 people out of some 20,700 infected. Among the measures proposed by the Dutch NGOs are training local health workers to ensure funerals are carried out safely, distributing hygiene kits, setting up handwashing stations and running a public awareness campaign on local radio and TV.
