The government will launch the e-Extension programme to boost farmers extension services. Ministry of Agriculture extension services director Mary Kamau said the programme will address the shortage of extension officers in Kenya. Kamau said the ratio of extension officers to farmers in the country stands at 1 to 1,200 against the expected one officer to 400 farmers. She said the programme will be launched in Embu town next week(THIS WEEK). Kamau said farmers will access information from the internet. She launched the Smart Farmer Africa Ltd’s brand publications; Smart Farmer Magazine and Smart Farmer Flower edition at a ceremony where she represented Agriculture Secretary Felix Koskei. Smart Farmer CEO and Editor in Chief Bernadette Murgor said that it was heartening that agriculture is finally getting the recognition it deserves especially from the media adding that streamlining Agriculture is also a means to creating wealth and employment.
