The grave of lieutenant Maurice James Dease VC. He was the first posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross on August 23rd 1914 while holding the Nimy canal bridge at Mons. He died of wounds while directing and then firing his machine gun after the crew had been killed. He was also one of the first officer casualties of WW1. He is buried in St Symphorien Military Cemetery. Also buried in the cemetery is the first and last British Commonwealth soldiers killed in WW1 John Parr and George Lawrence Price.
