The great and the good in Rushcliffe were honoured at last night’s (12 November) Rushcliffe Community Awards which took place at The Becket School, West Bridgford. Over 80 nominations were made across 10 categories of awards celebrating achievement over areas including the environment, crime prevention, helping young people and growing the economy. The Mayor of Rushcliffe’s award went to Doris Elcock from East Leake for her tireless work dedicating 30 years to East Leake Community Care Association. The Pride of Rushcliffe Award was given posthumously to Nikki Herbison of Ruddington who spent a lot of time fundraising, as well as being chair for St Mary’s Community Park project before her untimely death in May. The building strong communities award was won jointly by The Vale Market café in Langar-cum- Barnstone and Willoughby-on-the-Wolds breakfast group. The making communities safer award was won by Paul Noone for his work in Neighbourhood Watch in Upper Broughton. The supporting the local economy award was won by Lady Bay Arts Festival. The community business of the year award was won by Flintham Community Shop. The enabling healthy lives award was won by Joanne York for the junior parkrun at Rushcliffe Country Park. The protection and enhancing the environment award was won by Gotham Nature Reserve Trust. The supporting children and young people award was won by Joanne Wroughton of Cropwell Bishop Youth Club. The young person of the year award was won by Jordan Clark for his work at Cotgrave Candleby Lane School, supporting children who worked at their radio station. The awards were sponsored by Jamieson Christie Wealth Management Limited and Loughborough Building Society and were organised by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
