The great thing about Hinduism is that people arent really - TopicsExpress

The great thing about Hinduism is that people arent really concerned with Is that literal? The focus is on the understanding gained from the images and stories. I wish Christianity was more like that instead of us bickering over what is literal or how we can preserve our own best interests (or oppress others) with the text. Last week in dance class, we discussed the Hindu version of the Trinity (Trimurti): Brahma the creator, Vishnu the maintainer or preserver and Shiva the destroyer or transformer (Wikipedia). In the Shiva dance were learning, theres imagery of how Shiva is angered by evil and saves people from sin. Sounds familiar! I was thinking, what a great way to understand the function of Father/Son/Holy Ghost combo. Then in an NPR article, it said, Krishna...starts devouring mud [...] then Krishnas angry mother...discovers her filthy son and orders him to open his mouth. But instead of finding mud, she finds planets, stars, galaxies — an entire unknown cosmos lying within. What great imagery to understand creation! Not only creation, but the concept that we may not understand another persons actions because we dont know the world they are attempting to create for themself. Again, the focus is not Was that literal? or Did that actually happen? I think theres a lot more insight when you look at things that way.
