The greatest thing we can do in 2015 is draw close to Jesus; to seek him with all that we have and all that we are. Not just every once in awhile, or when we are walking through crisis, but to create an ongoing, intentional rhythm of listening for the voice of God and obeying Him. Here are a few practical questions we need to answer to develop this rhythm for our lives: - When: You need to have a no-exemption, set-aside time. If you don’t plan this, everything else in life will push it out. - Where: A place that you can find solitude – if you want it, you can find it. - How: Don’t just sit down and open the Word at random. This ignores the context of Scripture and the depth of knowing what you are reading. Find a devotional or passage of Scripture and focus on that. Here are a few tips to help you out: - Read it aloud. This feels funny at first, but it helps me to focus and remember what Im reading. - Journal your thoughts. You can just jot down the main idea or take-away thought. Sometimes I write one of the verses on a notecard to carry around with me for the day, and I try to look at it several times while waiting in traffic or at other slow points throughout the day. - Have some accountability. Following a reading plan with other friends has increased my consistency immensely. One more thing... dont give up! Sometimes life happens and you miss a day or a week.
