The guy who robbed the Chase Bank in downtown Huntington yesterday was a homeless veteran with mental health issues who was only pretending to have a gun. The guy appeared to be upset because the city mission was giving him bag lunches rather than hot food. If these facts are validated, I would think that court ordered psychiatric care in a VA facility would be far more desirable and humane, than a long prison sentence for a mentally disturbed veteran. Cursory impression is that the alleged robber is a PTSD case who just wants to get off the streets. If federal officials can bail out the big banks with billions, I would not hold it against the feds if they declined to prosecute on grounds of mental illness. Homeless Vets are a cause that is near and dear to me as no vet should be homeless. The fact that he went into a bank that has armed guards on the payroll without a gun.....I am uncertain if this was a bank robbery or a suicide attempt.
