The hanging of the Ghazir Rug in the White House is an important - TopicsExpress

The hanging of the Ghazir Rug in the White House is an important reminder to citizens around the world of the tragedy suffered by Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire, a dark chapter of history during which over 1.5 million men, women and children lost their lives. The rug was presented to President Calvin Coolidge in 1925 as a symbol of gratitude for American aid and generosity following the Armenian genocide. I was proud to support the Congressional Armenian Caucus in writing to President Obama to encourage him to display the Ghazir rug earlier this year. Its presence in the White House today is a testament to the advocacy of the Armenian community. bit.ly/1vdJhuT
