The headline is a lot more baity than the content, which is pretty good -- it discusses the predominance of Left/liberal thinking in literary circles and how some Right-wing groups in the US want to remedy that. It also highlights (correctly imo) that Right-leaning literary output tend to be better in non-fiction (argumentative essays). I subscribe to The American Conservatives literary newsletter but Im not sure how wide a demographic of the American Right they cover. Their focus and interests tend to be from the established canon (T.S. Eliot, Woolf), less so on the fringes of newer developments of literature in the 21st century (online zines, spoken word). I wonder if a part of the reason for the lack of Right-leaning presence in literature is because literary studies in general treasures subjectivity, individual experiences and responses, and suspends moral judgment. There are plenty of writers in the canon that express very conservative ideas -- even bigoted ideas -- the field is able to embrace them because it is not their ideas that are most important, but the aesthetic pleasure they provide. (IMO.)
