The hero of the Allman Brothers. While the band marches out - TopicsExpress

The hero of the Allman Brothers. While the band marches out vintage guitars and other relics it seems theyd love us to forget Dickey, the hero of this great legacy. While Duane may have designed this great group it was Dickey who brought guitar harmonies to the stage, wrote amazing songs of all types, from Liz Reed to Blue Sky and carried this group through their most productive periods. Butch Trucks recent statement regarding the band going in the wrong direction with songs like Blue Sky and albums like Brothers and Sisters is just one of the slaps in the face Betts has endured from his ex-partners. Trucks who spearheaded the god-awful attempts at jazz fusion in the name of Duane during this post Betts period would be lucky to play on a cruise ship tour if it werent for Betts genius. Now its the last night, guitars are paraded to the stage, but what of the famed SG? Sold by Gregg decades ago to keep his ball rolling. Dan Toler was never asked back for the same infraction, selling his sunburst given to him by Betts to a collector from Japan during hard times, but with Gregg its all ok. Still Betts and Toler made peace before Dans death and they made powerful music together, he like Dickey never set foot again on the ABB stage. As with The Band this is a tragic ending for American legends, too bitter to set things right, to selfish to indulge their forever loyal fans. Dickey has at least 2 allies on stage tonight, Warren and Derek, but their leverage may be what brought the ship down. So here we go, no stream, impossible tickets owned by wealthy professionals or fans reaching deep into their bank accounts once more to witness great music which no matter how well played can only be seen as second hand news without the bands true hero, Richard Betts.
