The highest of highs and the lowest of lows: Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend the Derek Jeter retirement ceremony with Marys niece Stephanie. The 2 of us have been to dozens of ballparks and games together over the years including seeing Jeters 3000 hit and Mos last home game. While at the stadium I was lucky enough to run into the Best Man from my wedding, who I havent seen in probably 3 years. The ceremony itself was awesome with a bunch of legends (Yankee and non-Yankee) showing up. This morning I read updates on yesterdays races and find out a buddy finished IM Wisconsin with less than 2 and 1/2 minutes to spare and one of my former athletes finished her 1st marathon. What a day! Then I get an email letting me know that another one of my former athletes has passed away at the young age of 24. I havent been in touch with him since he went away to college, other than seeing him the summer after his freshman year, and I dont know any of his circumstances to even speculate as to what happened. But he was a good kid for me while he was on my team and 24 is just too young to die. RIP Billy.
