The history of HIV and AIDS in the USA began in 1981, when the United States of America became the first country to officially recognize a strange new illness among a small number of gay men. Today, it is generally accepted that the origin of AIDS probably lies in Africa. However, the USA was the first country to bring AIDS into the public consciousness and the American reaction undoubtedly contributed to the establishment of AIDS as one of the most politicized, feared and controversial diseases in the history of modern medicine - a reputation that stands today. It took Ronald Regan 7 YEARS to even SAY the word AIDS. The way in which his administration handled the epidemic costs us thousands upon thousands of lives, because of lack of funding and acknowledgment in the early stages of AIDS. Fast forward. Now that a man in the United States has been diagnosed with Ebola, and DIED, some are asking why we havent stopped allowing people traveling from West Africa into our airports. Thomas Eric Duncan, the patient that was treated in the Dallas area, boarded a flight from Liberia on Sept. 19 and arrived in Texas on Sept. 20. United Airlines said Wednesday that it was told by the CDC that Duncan had used the airline to travel from Brussels to Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C., before flying from Dulles to Dallas-Fort Worth. Authorities have said repeatedly that there is no danger of anyone getting sick from flying with Duncan because he was not symptomatic at the time. But with every connecting flight carrying passengers who have recently been in the Ebola-ravaged countries of Sierra Leone, Guinea or Liberia, the chances of another exportation increase. Scares are increasing, too: Even AFRICAN airlines are banning flights from some areas within their OWN continent. It is clear that the US Healthcare system has not been properly prepared to deal with this infectious disease. Nurses are not being told the TRUTH about how easy it is to get this infection. The hospital in Dallas have been changing guidelines daily – and nurses do not know which protocol to follow. We now have a second nurse that has been infected. There will be more. Why won’t Obama, the CDC, and our FAA STOP any and ALL travel from African areas infected with Ebola until we get a handle on this situation? It only takes 1 person to infect Millions. Think about it. We need to keep this category 4 infectious agent off of US Soil. This is going to get bad people. Write your Senators immediately and tell them to STOP the Flights from the infected areas!!! This is expected to be a global Pandemic in 3 months.
