The history of anarchist nihilism. Anarchist nihilism was born out of the Russian nihilist movement of the 1860s that rejected all forms of authority. After the assassination of Alexander second in 1881, the nihilists were known to all throughout Europe as proponents of the use of violence for change. In its height in the 1870s insurance, during which underground groups such as Circle of Tchaikovsky, Peoples Will, and Land and Liberty were formed. This became known as the Narodnik movement, whose members believed that the newly freed serfs were merely being sold into wage slavery in the onset of the Industrial Revolution, and that the middle and upper classes had effectively replaced landowners.
