The holiday season isnt the best for rescues. Why? Because we know that by the end of January, the shelters are going to be packed with innocent young puppies purchased on impulse, or as presents for grandma who used to have one, or boyfriends/girlfriends who are not ready for dogs but want to take that next step in their relationship. Please dont give live animals as gifts, we on the front lines see the sad outcomes. Everything from grandma tripped over the puppy and broke her hip and he has to go, I dont have time for a puppy, hes getting too big, to the landlord says he has to be gone tomorrow. If you feel you have to gift a pet - please give a gift certificate to the shelter or rescue close to you - then you can be sure the recipient wants a pet, and you can be sure theyre a perfect combination when they choose each other!
