The holidays are of course a time of celebration, but as we approach the new year, they are also a time for reflection. And right now, Los Angeles has a lot to reflect on. Our citys success is founded on our ability to come together in a place as diverse and dynamic as any the world has ever seen. And as we look ahead into 2015 and beyond, that ability to unite remains the key to our future. Today, the autopsy of Ezell Ford is being released to the Ford family, the officers of the LAPD, and the community. I believe all of us benefit when objective information is made available, as it is today. I ordered the autopsys release because transparency is key to the trust between the LAPD and the people they serve. That trust is the foundation of a powerful partnership that has cut crime to record lows, and that has bridged historic divides with respect. Its important to all of us that this partnership continues. Thats why a full and impartial investigation is ongoing. Thats why witnesses must come forward without delay. And thats why violence in our streets or against the men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department will not be tolerated. Last nights incident reminds us of the risks our officers face every day. As we end 2014, I am proud that Los Angeles is home to the finest police officers in the nation, and my heart continues to go out to the grieving Ford family. - Mayor Eric Garcetti
