The homegrown California band, Yellow Red Sparks, released their first full length album of the same name. The band, formed by lead singer and songwriter Josh Hanson, gives us an record that any lover of acoustic guitar can appreciate. The heartfelt lyrics and swelling string section only get better the more you listen, revealing poetic subtleties with time; therefore, I recommend putting this album on repeat to get the full effect. The track “My Machine Gun” gives Yellow Red Sparks a hint of rebellion with its rhythmic percussion and anthemic chorus. This track is the angstiest of the songs on Yellow Red Sparks the other songs of which focus on Hanson’s wonderfully folksy vocals which recall a pre-Mandy Moore Ryan Adams.
