The hotel I stayed at overnight just tried to charge me $18 for - TopicsExpress

The hotel I stayed at overnight just tried to charge me $18 for watching a movie. I was really surprised, because, you know, Id think that watching one of these Pay-Per-View movies would actually require turning on the TV. Umm, could you tell me what movie and what time this movie was requested? I asked. She looked it up and told me that it was The Homesman which was activated around 11:30pm last night and watched for a whopping 3 minutes (so effectively $6/minute!!). After asking three different ways to confirm whether this was actually for my room, I started wondering whether Ive taken up channel surfing in my sleep, or whether Stephanie Sara Chan had taken a secret interest in this movie about three women who have been driven mad by pioneer life, who embark on a cross-country trip assisted by a low-life drifter and decided to preview it without me. Seeing my continued bewilderment, the clerk finally offered to waive the charges, phew! But it still bugs me -- how could this have happened from a technical standpoint (short of me actually doing this and blacking out or being in total denial or straight-up lying), and how many other people get charged for stuff like this and just pay it without question?
