The ice bucket challenge got me to thinking about record profits in the medical industry in the cancer, diabetes, ALS, AIDS, fields etc. The medical industry is raking in billions of dollars treating various patients over lengthy treatment periods. I was wondering, since we found the cure for Polio, have we found the cure for anything? Think about it. Smallpox was eradicated (supposedly) but what else have we solved? Im serious. Can someone point out a major cure? Meanwhile sales of expensive cars has skyrocketed (even during the sub-prime lending fiasco) and expensive homes are still increasing in cost. Healthcare professionals buying the cars and houses? Being in a position to feel the financial impact of a major illness, I can certainly vouch for the rising costs. I had a doctor walk into my room who I had never met, ask me a few questions about how I felt, and a month later received a bill for $500 from him. That was the last time I saw him. A bottle of nasal mist given to me at a hospital, which I could buy at Walgreens for $3.49, cost ten times as much. But major cures, uh nope! The sad thing is some of the hospitals are actually ran by religious organizations and you would think they would be above reproach. No way, its all profit. Meanwhile the nurses and aids run their butts off trying to help patients, always be smiling and happy, and slave their lives away for wages we would all question. Its broke folks with little chance of ever getting it back under control. Medical industry lobbyist have so much power with our leaders we will never again have a system where future Polios will ever be cured.
