The icing on the cake! Practical Sessions at the 10th International Equitation Science Conference, Denmark. The 10th ISES conference will include practical sessions which aim to provide a platform for discussions about training methods. 1. Pony club education ”If you want to change something about the way riders ride, you should start with the beginners” Mette Hald Rasmussen has one of the first pony riding schools that teaches learning psychology. She teaches small children not only how to ride her Shetland ponies, but also how the ponies learn to react to signals from the rider. 2. Fall techniques ”You can hardly be an active rider and not experience falling off a horse”. Helle Sydendal and Palle Flodgaard demonstrate how they teach young riders how to fall off a horse without getting hurt. 3. Academic riding ”Academic riding – from basic to advanced” Leopold Gombeer and Justin Verboven from Belgium demonstrate the principles of academic riding; both the initial training and the more advanced training and Frank Ödberg PhD will explain the theoretical background of the principles. 4. Show jumping ”Training confident show jumpers without activating the horse’s flight response” Susan Kjærgård demonstrates how to minimize stress and optimise learning for both rider and horse through creating a positive Conditioned Emotional Response (CER) to the jumps. The practical demonstrations will be educational and inspiring; however the demonstrated training methods and opinions of the presenters do not necessarily reflect the ISES mission.
