The iconic El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. This image was taken after a fresh blanket of snow had covered the valley and the sun was beginning to warm the granite face. Because the sun still had not risen high enough to reach the valley floor, I chose to concentrate the rock face in the light while the darkness still shrouded the areas below the cliff, helping to isolate this iconic rock. lightandcomposition/photo-of-the-day-september-15-the-captain-by-joe-azure/
