The idea of Oupa “Ace” Manyisa joining cross city rivals - TopicsExpress

The idea of Oupa “Ace” Manyisa joining cross city rivals Mamelodi Sundowns is a notion most Orlando Pirates supporters cannot fathom however the same was said for Teko “General” Modise and look how that turned out. Manyisa arguably Pirates most consistent performer and one of the most rated box-to-box midfielders in the country is looking for a move overseas. The facts are Ace’s contract ran out in June this year, however Pirates had the option to extend for another year (till June 2015) and Ace has not penned a new contract with the Buccaneers thus committing himself to the Parktown based club. Furthermore Sundowns have made it clear that the 26-year-old midfielder is a target. Rewind back to the 2007/08 season when a 26-year-old Modise was arguably at the peak of his powers for Pirates with the pending 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup perceived as Modise’s stage to demonstrate his prowess to the international audience and finally secure that sought after move to Europe. Needless to say the General had a forgettable Confed cup in 2009 and failed again to persuade his critics at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and when that move to Europe inevitably didn’t come Modise settled for the next best thing…Mamelodi Sundowns. One can’t help but think the same for the Bucs jersey number 20. The 2015 African Cup of Nations will have to be the stage where Oupa Manyisa will have to persuade European interests that he has the right stuffing to compete overseas. At 27-years-old the talented diminutive midfielder would have to be exceptional if he is going to lure some decent European club to pay for his signature failing which Ace will then have to settle for the next best thing in South African football. #SoccerLaduma #KC_King
