The idea that refusing to pledge allegiance to the Queen, as Lisa - TopicsExpress

The idea that refusing to pledge allegiance to the Queen, as Lisa Helps has done, out of a respect for the traditional title of First Nations, is patently ludicrous. The Crown has been the guarantor of minority rights since the dawn of Canada, since it permitted the practice of Catholicism by the new British Subjects in Quebec. That same year the Royal Proclamation of 1763 established the legal basis for aboriginal title. The relationship between the sovereign First Nations and the Queen in Right of Canada is incredibly important - if she doesnt understand that an Oath of Allegiance to the Queen is as much a sign of respect for the sovereignty of First Nations as anything else, she is mistaken. Lisa Helps was videotaped wearing the Chain of Office, a Royal symbol. While there is no legal basis to prevent her from ruling, she should have the decency and consistency to only wear the Chain of Office once she has taken her Oath.
