The idea that we need to work together assumes that there is *one* movement. There isnt. The large corporate animal charities are actively trying to stop the discussion about whether we can justify using animals. These groups refuse to take a moral position on the matter of animal use, claiming that the issue is one of lifestyle choice. They actively promote welfare reform and happy exploitation. A social movement for animals that refuses to express the view that animal use is morally unjustifiable, and that promotes happy exploitation as a baby step, is not a movement of which I want any part. Its been going in this direction since the early 1990s. And it is only getting worse. We owe it to animals to build a grassroots movement that, in a creative and nonviolent way, challenges animal use and rejects the whole concept of humane exploitation.
